Sometimes it’s good to be a United States Marine and one of those perks was clearly evident when some Marines took a wild off-road ride on the extremely powerful and fast Nikola “Reckless” UTV, which can go from 0 to 60 in just over three seconds.

This new toy called the “Nikola Reckless UTV,” named after decorated Marine war horse Staff Sgt. Reckless, is a prototype of the first off-road all-electric performance UTV (Utility Task Vehicle), the Nikola NZT.

The Nikola NZT comes in multiple models and combinations, but at the highest end it comes with up to 590 direct drive horsepower and 722 ft lbs of instant torque. To pick one up with those specs will run you somewhere in the neighborhood of around $60,000. (It’s a very good neighborhood. It starts at $28,900.)

The “Reckless” version of the NZT has a 14.5-inch ground clearance, tires enhanced with Kevlar, weighs just 1,900 pounds, and will cost $85,000. The Marines have also discussed configuring the UTV to be able to mount machine guns, grenade launchers or anti-tank guided missiles.

“It is a workhorse with a never-quit attitude,” said Andy Christian, Nikola’s director of defense. “Its unique massive battery allows you to take energy from it and power anything, even a command center. It has an infra-red beam that can be used with night vision and a remote weapons system machine gun that can be controlled by a joystick anywhere in the vehicle. It’s light enough to go on a MV-22 osprey.”
