October is upon us, which means it’s time to get spooky. I’ve never been much for dressing up in elaborate Halloween costumes, but I’m always down for a proper horror movie. There are a lot of places to start with a horror movie marathon, but you can’t go wrong starting with the 1980s cult classic Children of the Corn which you can watch FREE on Plex this month.

Stephen King adaptations in the 1980s could be very hit-or-miss, but I would classify this one as a hit. It strikes the perfect balance of creepiness and unintentional campiness that will stick with you long after you watch it.
Burt (Peter Horton) and Vicky (Linda Hamilton of Terminator fame) are road-tripping through Nebraska when they find themselves in a small town inhabited only by children who have murdered all the adults and worship a demonic entity that lives in the cornfields. These titular “children of the corn” are led by creepy preacher Isaac (John Franklin) and his manic red-headed lackey Malachai (Courtney Gains).
The blood might be flowing gratuitously, the special effects might not hold up, and the narrative might seem wonky (as most Stephen King adaptations do), but this is a horror movie that remains just as creepy now as it was 40 years ago.
