We made it to October, which means we made it to the season of pumpkins, goblins, ghouls, and gorging yourself on Halloween candy. It’s also a great time of the year to turn the lights down low and watch a proper horror movie. Extra-scary movies are not for everyone, which is why we’ve compiled a list of our favorite campy horror movies that you can watch FREE on Plex this month:
Really fell at a time when Hollywood was coming up with a ton of offbeat horror movies with a lot of comedy (Trick ‘r Treat, The Cabin in the Woods, etc.). Tucker and Dale are just your run-of-the-mill hillbillies, but to a group of college students, they are two bloodthirsty killers. Hilarity and violence ensue as the two sides unintentionally fight for survival as the blood and laughs flow.

One of my personal favorite guilty-pleasure horror movies of all time. Nothing beats a group of campers fighting for their lives against Nazi zombies in the harsh Norwegian winter wilderness. Definitely not a movie for those who get squeamish from excess blood and guts, but you’ll be surprised how many times you laugh out loud.

You know you’ve got a true low-budget B-movie when there’s almost no one in the cast that’s recognizable. Melvin Ferd Junko III goes from a scrawny janitor to a deformed superhuman monster after falling into toxic waste. I wish that today’s generic horror movies could be half as entertaining as this one. A favorite of the midnight screening circuit.

One of my favorite career trajectories in the film industry is Daniel Radcliffe taking on the weirdest roles possible after wrapping up Harry Potter. Radcliffe plays Ig, a man falsely accused of murdering his girlfriend Merrin (Juno Temple from Ted Lasso) who sprouts horns and develops special powers to find the real killer.

If you ever wondered what would happen if Nicolas Cage was dropped into the game Five Nights at Freddy’s, I would have to question your sanity but would reward you with this hidden gem. What an easy elevator pitch: Nic Cage fights animatronics at a knockoff Chuck E. Cheese. Proves my point that anything starring the artist formerly known as Nicolas Coppella is high art.
