Actor David Yost came to fame as the blue Power Ranger on the initial go-round of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. But he won’t touch a reunion since he claims producers never accepted his homosexuality.
According to TMZ, Yost claims that producers had called him a “faggot” behind his back on the set and openly questioned his sexuality in discussions with the other cast members.
“I know that my co-stars were called in a couple of times to different producers’ offices and questioned about my sexuality,” Yost said in a 2010 interview. “[It’s] kind of a humiliating experience to find that out.”
Yost did not come out as gay until after the show’s initial run concluded.
TMZ claims that producers — who reached out to Yost in an effort to film a reunion of the original Power Ranger team on the new incarnation Power Rangers Megaforce — said that Yost was just a “pain in the ass.”
Yost took to Twitter to bitch about TMZ’s coverage, saying:
Here’s hoping that the producers have learned a little about respecting the man behind the Blue Ranger. Would you want to piss off an empowered gay man who can potentially control a five-ton robot replica of a triceratops? I think not.
