Chad Dawson headlines excellent HBO boxing doubleheader

Chad Dawson is defending his light heavyweight championship Saturday night against up and comer Adonis Stevenson. Dawson hasn’t been in the ring since last September when he dropped weight for the Andre Ward fight. A fight he lost by TKO in the 10th round.

Stevenson’s one of the hottest boxers in the super middleweight division with a record of 20-1, 17 by knockout. He’s won 7 straight fights dating back to 2010.

Their fight is scheduled for 12 rounds. Here’s boxer Andre Ward with his preview.

The second fight of HBO’s doubleheader features two undefeated lightweights-Yuriorkis Gamboa of Cuba and Darleys Perez of Colombia. Gamboa is the more highly regarded of the two having made quick work of several fighters in the featherweight and super featherweight divisions. Many believe he’s on the cusp of greatness.

His opponent believes he’s all hype:

“Yuriorkis Gamboa is in for the fight of his life. The world will be stunned on June 8; so too will Gamboa. I warned him to prepare for me like I’ve prepared for him. I hope he’s ready because I know I am.”

Interested to see how Dawson rebounds after that September loss. Truly believe the drop in weight hurt him immensely. A victory here could propel him to a rematch with Jean Pascal.
