CONFIRMED: Seth Meyers will take over ‘Late Night’

Seth Meyers will replace Jimmy Fallon on Late Night. It began as a hope, then it was just a rumor, but now it’s been confirmed by NBC. The new host is set to begin in the spring of 2014 when Jimmy Fallon takes over The Tonight Show from current host Jay Leno.

Meyers said of his new position at NBC: “I only have to work for Lorne for five more years before I pay him back for the time I totaled his car.

“12.30 on NBC has long been incredible real estate. I hope I can do it justice.”

I have no doubt he will do the position justice. Most people know Seth Meyers from starring in SNL sketches, but few realize that he has been the show’s head writer since 2006. With all that experience as the driving creative force, this should be an easy transition for him. His five years as the solo host behind “Weekend Update” desk should also have him ready to sit behind The Tonight Show desk. He was nimble enough to handle Stefon and poor, poor Tyler Perry, so dealing with regular celebs should be no problem for him.

Lorne Michaels is either brilliant or lazy. In 2009 he plugged his own guy, Jimmy Fallon, into Late Night. Now that he is taking over the reigns of The Tonight Show as well, he’s bringing his man with him again. So how does he replace Fallon? By grabbing another SNL cast member, of course! Why work with someone new?
