HBO ‘True Detective’ trailer stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson

True Detective is a new dramatic series coming to HBO this January starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. If the trailer is to be believed, no, it’s not a vampire detective show.

The world doesn’t need another detective show, but we do deserve this one from HBO. There’s nothing like a side of sex with your murder mystery. What the world does need though is more Matthew McConaughey, and that’s just what we’re going to get. The two main characters on True Detective are played by he and Woody Harrelson. That alone makes the show worth watching. The trailer leaves a lot to the imagination, but that’s why we have an official synopsis.

In 2012, Louisiana State Police Detectives Rust Cohle and Martin Hart are brought in to revisit a homicide case they worked in 1995. As the inquiry unfolds in present day through separate interrogations, the two former detectives narrate the story of their investigation, reopening unhealed wounds, and drawing into question their supposed solving of a bizarre ritualistic murder in 1995. The timelines braid and converge in 2012 as each man is pulled back into a world they believed they’d left behind. In learning about each other and their killer, it becomes clear that darkness lives on both sides of the law.

True Detective premiers January 2014 and also stars Michelle Monaghan (Mission: Impossible III), Kevin Dunn (Veep), Tory Kittles (Sons of Anarchy), and Michael Potts (The Wire).
