HS football coach benches entire team for cyber bullying

The Union High School football (Utah) team got blown out last week 40-16. After the game, players were asked to turn in their jerseys. It wasn’t the play on the field that bothered the coach, it was some off field behavior that rubbed him the wrong way. Apparently some players were bullying students online.

“The lack of character we are showing off the field is outshining what we are achieving on the field,” the letter said. “It is a privilege to play this wonderful game! We must earn the opportunity to have the honor to put on our high school jerseys each Thursday and Friday night!”

With no practice this week, players performed community service, studied, did work around the house. The coach had them write a report about it.

Some might say this coach went overboard. Some might say a coach’s job is to build programs not character.

Maybe you’re right. Maybe a coach should stick to X’s and O’s. Maybe he should ignore the off field stuff. Maybe his only concern should be winning.

And that folks is why kids grow up to be assholes.

Good on you coach!
