Woman allegedly asks kids to murder her in-laws, sends them a knife

Leticia Silva may not be winning an award for World’s Greatest Mom any time soon after being arrested on charges of conspiring to kill her in-laws…through her children.

Police say that the 31-year-old Lakeland, Fla. native mailed her young daughters a knife while serving a jail sentence last December. The lack-of-care package included a request for the seven and nine-year-old girls to kill their grandparents.

Silva was serving time for possession of methamphetamines at the time of the scheme. She lost custody of her children to their paternal grandparents in Greenville, N.C. as a result of several run-ins with the law.

According to NBC News, the scheme went awry when the grandmother found the knife under one of the girl’s pillows in early February.

The grandmother brought the young girls to the police station where they confessed that they’d been instructed to carry out the assassination plot by their incarcerated mother.

Silva turned herself in to local authorities after the charges. She’s currently being held on a $5 million bond.

The weirdest part of the story: That girl slept with a knife under her pillow for TWO MONTHS? That seems unsafe for most 30-year-olds, let alone a small child who still probably gets freaked out by what’s under the bed at night. I suppose that’s the least of her problems here, but still.
