Peligroso Cinnamon is a flavored tequila actually worth drinking

Peligroso Cinnamon was the world’s first cinnamon infused tequila, and unlike the real cinnamon challenge, you’ll be able to take down far more than a tablespoon in a minute.

Peligroso

Flavored tequilas are becoming more common, but aside from coffee/espresso, most people haven’t tried any of them. There are jalapeno, lime, chocolate, orange, coconut, and mango flavors all floating around out there. I enjoy the Avión Espresso, Patrón XO Cafe, and Tanteo Jalapeño, but not much more. That is until Peligroso Cinnamon came knocking.

Cinnamon seems like a natural match for tequila. Instead of trying to hide the spice of the roasted agave like a mango would, cinnamon compliments it perfectly. When it comes to booze, there’s good heat and there’s bad heat. Peligroso’s combo brings the good heat and lets it linger longer than whatever the hell The Cranberrys were singing about.

Part of the reason it works well is that it’s made from pure cinnamon extract instead of some syrup concoction. That combined with the 42% ABV, which is overproof for tequila, allows Peligroso’s base spirit to stand out when many others get washed away into a terrible tasting nightmare. What’s the point of drinking tequila if not for agave?

Like with everything that comes across my bar, I drank it straight first. Not bad. It works really well as shot but I wouldn’t lounge around sipping it while watching Wheel of Fortune.

Peligroso Cinnamon was stellar in the couple cocktails I tried, the best of which was the Peligroso Sangree. Mix 1.5 oz tequila, .5 oz. Cointreau, 2 oz. red wine, and top up with 1.5 oz. ginger ale. There are no fancy ingredients or purees to make. Just booze, booze, booze, and ginger ale… which sounds like booze.
