Man Has A Secret Way To Make Domino’s Pizza Healthier. He Throws It Upside Down On The Floor—Box And All

A man revealed his method to remove grease from a Domino’s Pizza. The interesting part? The method involves throwing the pizza on the ground upside down in its box.

Jeff & Lauren, an account run by a couple, shared a “life hack” that prompted quite the debate in the comments section. The hack in question was a pizza flip that apparently removed some of the top layer of grease.

The video, which contained a variety of “Jeff Kitchen Tips you’ll use forever,” starts off with the to-go box flip.

At the beginning of the clip, Jeff takes a pepperoni pizza that came inside a Domino’s box and throws it to the ground. He then picks up the box, flips the pizza back on the right side, and opens the box.

A layer of grease remains at the top of the box, which was the apparent point of the hack.

Does The Hack Actually Work?

There are a variety of pizza hacks out there. Some help pizza lovers save space in the fridge. Others teach pie makers how to get free slices.

Multiple people had critiques of the “pizza on floor” method Jeff used. For one, viewers were concerned that flipping the pizza might remove other essentials—toppings, cheese, and even sauce.

“Slams pizza on the floor… loses all the toppings… Yeah, that one ain’t meant for me,” one person said.

“With my luck, all the fricking cheese would come off the pizza,” another commenter added.

Additionally, other people argued that blotting a slice of pizza with a paper towel is a more effective strategy than using a flip trick.

“Or what if u just u know press a paper towel against your pizza to soak up the grease?? Instead of body slamming it,” one viewer asked.

Is It Even Worth Removing The Grease From Pizza?

Pizzas naturally develop grease, especially when they have meat toppings. The fat inside the cheese toppings and even inside other ingredients melt and rise toward the surface, leaving a thin layer of fat toward the top of most standard slices.

Some people blot or, in this case, flip their pizza to remove the greasy fat from it. The common belief is that removing the grease off of a pizza can save calories and remove saturated fat from each individual slice.

But reports that recommend blotting to remove excess calories may overestimate its benefits.

Georgia-Pacific Health Smart Institute, for instance, found that 17% of the saturated fat from a pizza slice could be removed by blotting the pizza. But that report also contained biases. BuzzFeed later proved that the company that supported the study manufactured paper towels, which made many people question the study’s final conclusions. When BuzzFeed reached out to Georgia-Pacific to verify the study, a representative said the company “is no longer able to verify the test results.”

What Other Research Is Out There?

Beyond the Georgia-Pacific Health Smart Institute’s study, not much research has been done to conclude that blotting could have a genuinely positive affect on consumer health or significantly reduce calories in a meaningful way.

For some, the grease is also a plus. “For many pizza aficionados, the grease is an integral part of the experience. It’s a sign of a good, old-fashioned, properly made pizza,” LipTouchFoods wrote. Some people consider the grease on a pizza part of the eating process and therefore don’t opt to dab or flip their pizza to remove it.
