Pat Welter was on the field for North Carolina’s latest football game against ETSU. While on the sidelines, he crossed paths with Bill Belichick’s girlfriend.
Welter took the moment to film Jordon Hudson, who was also filming him. The interaction was bizarre, and somewhat tense given the news reporter’s history with the program.
Welter has been the source of a few breaking stories across the last two years that have shined a negative light on the Tar Heels program. His news station even produced a documentary on the coach’s hiring and tumultuous debut season.

Last season, Welter reported on a few internal dramas linked to North Carolina’s new football coach. Included were accusations of unfair treatment, locker room chaos, and potential recruiting violations. Eventually, the program would be hit with minor infractions that led to the suspension of an assistant.
This year, Welter provided an update on an internal investigation following the resignation of GM Michael Lombardi. He uncovered a widespread probe that’s now focusing on Belichick’s son and defensive coordinator, Steve.
Steve Belichick is being questioned about potential drug use. There are concerns that he might’ve used drugs while on campus and/or provided drugs to at least one player on the team.
Meanwhile, lawyers are also looking into possible sexual relations between assistant coaches and recruiting staff, and whether a member of the Tar Heels’ recruiting staff had a sexual relationship with a player. Nothing has been confirmed.
Bill Belichick brushed off Welter’s questioning in his most recent press conference. He seems annoyed with the reporter.

His girlfriend was visibly peeved by the sports anchor’s presence in Chapel Hill on Saturday. It resulted in a bizarre interaction on the sidelines.

The context is relatively unclear. I don’t know who started filming first. My guess would be on Welter, but why?
Hudson has made herself a storyline in the past by overstepping boundaries. This was not one of those instances. She was minding her business on the bench. Welter decided to put a phone in her face, maybe hoping to get a reaction.
It worked as she responded by filming him from the other side of the camera. The whole thing was just weird.
Welter’s post got some attention online. He’s used the drama surrounding Bill Belichick to his benefit. He’ll continue to do so as long as the coaching staff keeps providing reason to.
His past reporting on North Carolina’s issues has been relevant and newsworthy. Sometimes, though, it seems he has a vendetta against the program. He is quick to jab at every opportunity. Look no further than his game breakdown from UNC’s 35-3 win on Saturday.
This latest interaction with Jordon Hudson seemed unnecessary. It got the clicks he wanted but came off a bit creepy. We’ll see if Hudson posts her video in response.
