Premature rushing of the field leads to bizarre win in HS football game

A blocked field goal and a premature celebration led to a bizarre ending in a Washington HS football game last week.

Columbia River lined up for a field goal with 7 seconds left. They trailed Skyview 24-23. The try was blocked but not beyond the line of scrimmage. Skyview players ran off the field in jubilation, forgetting there was a live ball.

At the insistence of their coaches, Columbia River picked it up and walked in for an uncontested touchdown. Skyview coach Steve Kiser after the game: “Until I see the film I don’t want to make any comment. We should have finished the play. That’s the moral of the story.”

Ah yes, the ol’ “I haven’t watched the film yet, I can’t comment” excuse.

Remarkable stupidity here, even for teenagers.
