Here’s another reason Randy ‘Macho Man’ Savage might never be inducted in WWE Hall of Fame

WWE

Randy “Macho Man” Savage is a wrestling icon not getting his proper due.

Abdullah the Butcher has never wrestled a match for the WWE in his entire career. He’s a WWE Hall of Fame member. Edge, an amazing and accomplished wrestler of Hall of Fame caliber, is already a member even though he’s only been retired for a few years. There are celebrity inductees and even a backstage production manager who was never a part of the on-screen product. Yet, one of the greatest wrestling personalities, Randy “Macho Man” Savage continues to get shunned by the WWE Hall of Fame committee.

Randy “Macho Man” Savage’s name is a glaring omission on the list of inducted WWE Hall of Famers. The fans want him in the Hall. Fellow wrestlers want him in the Hall. The remaining members of his family want  Randy “Macho Man” Savage in the Hall, but, it’s that same family that might be preventing him from being inducted with the other legends of wrestling history.

Randy “Macho Man” Savage Hall of Fame request

In recent interview with Under the Mat Radio, Lanny Poffo, the brother of Randy “Macho Man” Savage, discussed Randy’s omission from the WWE Hall of Fame and Randy feelings about this fact in the day before his untimely death. Randy had a wish, should his induction day ever come, that perhaps was made known to the WWE.

“It was the final birthday that we celebrated with my father… he lived to be 85 years old. We went to the Olive Garden in Largo, Florida and Randy mentioned the Hall of Fame for the first time that we heard of. Randy said, ‘how do you like that? The Von Erichs in the Hall of Fame, even Chris, all of them. What kind of a Hall of Fame is it that Chris (Von Erich) goes in and he’s not in for his first name, he’s in for his last name. I think the Poffos are better than the Von Erichs and if anybody wants me in, I’m not going in (the Hall of Fame) unless Angelo, Lanny, and Randy Savage go in together.'”

While understandably upset, Randy ‘Macho Man’ Savage’s argument is slightly flawed.

The Von Erich Family, while Texas legends, didn’t make quite the impression in the WWE. Chris Von Erich was part of the Von Erich legacy though was nowhere near the talent that of his brothers Kevin and Kerry or even the family patriarch Fritz. While Chris singularly isn’t considered a Hall of Fame member, he’s part of the family as an induction.

While Angelo Poffo had a good career as both a wrestler and promoter and Lanny “The Genius” Poffo was a big part of the WWF program back in the mid-to-late 80s, neither men really deserve a Hall of Fame induction just because Randy “Macho Man” Savage was a megastar and a multiple time champion. If the Chris Von Erich isn’t allowed to use his last name to gain entree into the WWE Hall of Fame, neither can the Poffo family.

Eventually, Randy “Macho Man” Savage will get a spot in the WWE Hall of Fame. Whether his deceased father Angelo or brother Lanny are included in that induction remains to be seen.
