See the other side of ‘Gravity’ in ‘Aningaaq’

No, that’s not “Gravity” spelled backwards and upside down, although it sort of looks like it. So Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity was one of the better flicks of the year, a tense, minimal thriller about being lost in Earth orbit with no way home. People are already talking it up for an Oscar bid, and now it looks like Warner Brothers might be going for another. Aningaaq is an eight-minute short film that Cuaron made with the intent of using as a neat DVD extra or something, but it’s so good (and ties into the story of Gravity in such a cool way) that they decided to just release it as a short and let it contend in the Best Short Film category.
