Serena Williams’ ankle is the size of a grapefruit

Serena Williams battled an ankle injury for most of the Australian Open. After her loss to Sloane Stephens in the quarterfinals, we finally got a glimpse of just how bad that injury was.

Serena tweeted out this gnarly pic.

I’m not a doctor nor do I play one on the internet but that looks bad. It’s as if someone surgically implanted a grapefruit while she was sleeping. The fact Serena was able to play through several rounds with this injury is a testament to her strength and fitness. Though one might argue it was her weight that ultimately led to the ankle roll in the first place.

Either way, a battered and bruised Serena on one leg nearly won the Australian Open. Goes to show that when healthy, there’s NOBODY in the game that can match her.
