World Cup has its first fan fatality of the tournament

A Chinese fan dies from too much World Cup soccer — but it’s not what you think.

A 25-year-old man from Suzhou, outside Shanghai, was found dead in front of his television hours after the Netherlands beat Spain 5-1 in their first round game last Friday. The game finished around 5am, Shanghai time, and doctors believe his death might have been brought on by sleep deprivation.

According to the Xinhua news agency, doctors believe the dude probably crocked from an excessive lack of sleep but wouldn’t rule out the possibility of a heart attack brought on by exhaustion.

World Cup fans in China need to pull all-nighters to follow the action live since the time difference between the country, and the host country of Brazil, is eleven hours.

Death by soccer isn’t anything new in China — similar deaths were reported in 2006 and 2010. For the sake of all those soccer fans living in China, how about letting them host in four years?
