New Poll Finds That Beer Is Still King Over Wine And Liquor

A new Gallup poll found a majority of Americans drink alcohol and their go-to drink is beer. The study also discovered that guys love beer and girls love wine. Shocking, I know.

Gallup collected data from a random sample of 1,021 American adults, aged 18 and older, from July 5-9, 2017. They found that beer is king and 40% of adults reach for a beer when they’re getting their drink on compared to 30% who drown their sorrows in a glass or bottle of wine and finally 26% who go for the hard stuff. Beer is the clear and overwhelming choice for men where 62% of gentlemen grab a brew compared to 19% of women.

Meanwhile, females are way more likely to chug a bottle of wine while watching “The Bachelor.” There were 50% of women who preferred wine as their drink of choice compared to men at 11%. The 26% of people who are drinking liquor was the highest rate in 25 years.

As far as how many of us enjoy indulging in the nectar of the gods, the study found that 62% of Americans drink alcohol occasionally. That number is relatively steady over the last 80 years, except in the late 1970s and early 1980s where the rate was 70%. The poll found that 38% of U.S. adults drink no alcohol whatsover.
