A rat is an animal which is not terribly different than a mouse or squirrel. I just moved to New York City and see them frequently now, walking across the subway tracks. I don’t mind them.
But boy are most New Yorkers terrified of rats. I don’t know why. It’s not like they bite, or can kill you with their claws, or really do anything for that matter except try to find food. But this morning, a rat managed to get on the A train in Brooklyn and people shit their pants.
Have some self-respect. And some balls. You are standing on a subway seat to avoid being touched by an animal.
