The Honest Trailer For ‘Super Mario Maker’ Reminds You Why You Bought A PS4 And Not A Wii U

Have I played Super Mario Maker? No. Did I hear great things about it? Sure. Was it enough hype for me to buy a Wii U for just one game? Again, No.

And that’s why this video reminds me why I bought a PS4 instead of a Wii U – not that I was even considering buying a Wii U in the first place, but this video more or less cemented the deal in my mind. Look at those graphics. Look at the gameplay. It’s nothing new. I get that some of the levels in Super Mario Maker are supposed to be retro, and I guess that’s cool and all…but other than building levels, what does this game really offer? I can see myself playing this for 45 minutes tops and then getting bored, putting it on my shelf and never opening its case again.

That’s more or less my problem with the WiiU: there’s nothing really “new” about it. Any of the games worth buying for it are games you’ve basically already played on the Wii or GameCube albeit with a few minor tweaks, but other than that? Meh. Why buy the new Super Smash Brothers when you’ve pretty much already got the same game on Wii? The whole thing is one big Sunday morning of cartoon repeats to me.

As for those of you who got conned into buying a WiiU, I’m sorry – maybe if you haven’t lost the receipt yet there’s still time to trade it in for a PS4 or Xbox One, but probably not.
