This Latest Optical Illusion Driving The Internet Nuts Will Make Your Eyes Completely Bug Out

Optical illusions are awesome. Well, most of the time.

Usually, they are fun little tricks to play on your mind and even more fun to send to your friends to mess with their heads.

But this one? This one, while typically cray as they all are, makes my damn head hurt just looking at it.

I mean, just look at this thing. There are supposed to be 12 dots on it and I am sure that there are. I just can’t stay focused on it long enough to see them all. It just makes my head want to explode.

Is it just me or does that look like some kind of crazy GIF when you stare at it? It’s not, but if you told me it was a GIF I would 100% believe you.

So do you want to know why this particular optical illusion does what it does? Well, according to Sploid this thing is called Ninio’s extinction illusion and here’s what they have to say about it…

When the white disks in a scintillating grid are reduced in size, and outlined in black, they tend to disappear. One sees only a few of them at a time, in clusters which move erratically on the page. Where they are not seen, the grey alleys seem to be continuous, generating grey crossings that are not actually present. Some black sparkling can be seen at those crossings where no disk is seen. The illusion also works in reverse contrast.

Get all that? Me, neither. But just to prove that there are in fact 12 dots on that image the folks over at Metro were nice enough to circle them all.

Man, I am looking at the answer and it’s still making my head hurt.

Yep, this is definitely one I am sending around to annoy as many of my friends as possible.
