It’s kind of amazing that Ric Flair is still stylin’ and profilin’ at the vine-ripped age of 67. The man has been through hell and back and come out way on top.
A few years back I had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet the stylin’, profilin’, limousine riding, jet flying, kiss-stealing, wheelin’ n’ dealin’ son of a gun himself. In a crowded room with Patrick Ewing, Darryl Strawberry, John McEnroe, and Evander Holyfield watching, he taught me how to “woo!”
As I wrote at the time:
Last Tuesday, when it was dumping snow outside, I headed over to Penn Station area of New York City to crash a party for Delta Passport’s to Madison Square Garden, a showcase of the arena. Along with rubbing elbows with Evander Holyfield and Rangers demi-god Mark Messier, I got a quick word in with the stylin’, profilin’, limousine riding, jet flying, kiss-stealing, wheelin’ n’ dealin’ son of a gun himself, Ric The Nature Boy Flair. After a little banter about the time he fought Rowdy Roddy Piper at Wrestlemania in Madison Square Garden, I asked him to teach how to do his signature “WOO!!!” in a packed media pit.
He obliged. And it’s the highlight of my life.
Years later, I still have a hard time holding these alligators down — “Woo!” — because that’s how fucking awesome it is to hear Ric Flair “Woo” in person.
Just look at the shit the guy’s been through:
What a marvel.
