Land of the free, home of the extremely wasteful. That is America in a nutshell.
While that motto can be applied for several aspects of American life, it rings no truer than when we talk about the amount of food we produce but don’t consume each year. According to reports, America wastes as much as 40% of the food we produce. Which, according to Diane Sawyer, is enough food to fill 730 football stadiums.
Sure, we waste a lot of food. But doesn’t this mean that we are also producing way too much food? Clearly we don’t need all of it. I mean, could you imagine the obesity epidemic if we weren’t only eating 60% of the food we produce?
