U.S. Dropped The Largest Non-Nuclear Bomb On ISIS, So Big It’s Called The ‘Mother Of All Bombs’

The United States just dropped the largest non-nuclear bomb in the military’s arsenal in an attack on ISIS in Afghanistan. The Pentagon has confirmed that they have dropped the ginormous 21,000-pound GBU-43 bomb AKA Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb (MOAB) on an alleged complex of tunnels used by ISIS in eastern Afghanistan. The MOAB, which is nicknamed the “Mother of All Bombs,” was first tested in 2003, but this was the first time this gigantic hell bomb was ever used in combat. For comparison, a Tomahawk cruise missile weighs 1,000 pounds. The Mother of All Bombs packs the punch of 11 tons of TNT.

Here is the statement from the U.S. Central Command:

“At 7:32 pm local time today, U.S. Forces – Afghanistan conducted a strike on an ISIS-K tunnel complex in Achin district, Nangarhar province, Afghanistan, as part of ongoing efforts to defeat ISIS-K in Afghanistan in 2017. The strike used a GBU-43 bomb dropped from a U.S. aircraft. The strike was designed to minimize the risk to Afghan and U.S. Forces conducting clearing operations in the area while maximizing the destruction of ISIS-K fighters and facilities.”

“As ISIS-K’s losses have mounted, they are using IEDs, bunkers and tunnels to thicken their defense,” Gen. John W. Nicholson, commander of US forces in Afghanistan, said in the statement, referring to the ISIS branch in Afghanistan and Pakistan, ISIS-Khorasan. “This is the right munition to reduce these obstacles and maintain the momentum of our offensive against ISIS-K.”

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said, “We targeted a system of tunnels and caves that ISIS fighters used to move around freely.”

The MOAB was dropped in the Achin district of Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province, which borders northwest Pakistan. The Central Command statement said U.S. forces “took every precaution to avoid civilian casualties.” However, with a bomb this enormous and powerful, anyone in the vicinity could be eviscerated.

The massive and aggressive show of force comes just days after a Green Beret was killed in the same region of the country during operations against ISIS.

Here is the kind of absolute and widespread destruction you are looking at when one of these monsters is unleashed.
