People Shared Their Most Random Bits Of Trivia So Read This And Feel Really Really Smart Today

I’ve always been a sucker for trivia. For whatever reason my brain is a sponge for useless knowledge, knowledge that I only ever get to bust out during the most random of times. That’s the nature of random trivia facts though, they’re not pearls of wisdom to be applied to every day life. I can tell you that Mahi Mahi is considered to be the fastest growing fish in the ocean and the urban legend of Daddy Long Legs spiders being highly venomous but having fangs too small to bite humans is bullshit. I can tell you that facetious is the only word in the English language where the vowels ‘a,e,i,o,u’ all appear in order….But for some reason I can never remember my own parent’s birthdays.

Anyways, a bunch of people over on AskReddit shared their favorite pieces of trivia and I thought you bros would dig this since it’s a completely random slice of facts, ones that have no connection to each other side from being random as shit.

This one is hands down my favorite, because I’m sure you bros have noticed by now I overuse this phrase every day here on BroBible (though I did already know the origin of it).

TheurgyWarden:

The phrase “hands down” comes from horseracing and refers to a jockey who is so far ahead that he can afford drop his hands and loosen the reins (usually kept tight to encourage a horse to run) and still easily win.

Counterparts__:

The old phrase “Raining cats and dogs” started off in 17th century England. During heavy rainstorms, homeless cats and dogs would drown and float down the street which gives off the impression it is raining cats and dogs.

From Wikipedia:
The ancient Romans used the word “trivia” to describe where one road split or forked into two roads. Trivia was formed from tri (three) and via (road) – literally meaning “three roads”, and in transferred use “a public place” and hence the meaning “commonplace”

All the planets in our solar system can fit, lined up, between the Earth and our moon.
People don’t realize just how far away our moon really is.

TheCelloIsAlive:

Contrary to massively popular belief, Tim Burton did not direct The Nightmare Before Christmas. Henry Selick did. I’ve used this as the final round question in trivia before, everyone always wagers all their points, says “Tim Burton”, and ends with every team tying at 0 points.

Dora_De_Destroya:

When a wasp stings you, it leaves a scent for other wasps to sting you as well.

TheGreatGuidini:

Echidnas have four headed, prehensile penises with which they can use two at once to navigate the strange vaginas of the female echidnas. They can use their penises to scoop out the old load of another dude’s handiwork.

First up is my favorite collection of trivia books, they actually make perfect Christmas gifts because they’re a good novelty gift that people actually enjoy. It’s a collection of completely random and interesting trivia and it’s something EVERYONE SHOULD OWN in their bathroom:
