The Trump supporter has been unfairly generalized as a xenophobic, racist, bigoted troglodytes. While there certainly is a small percentage that fits that bill, there are many intelligent, accepting individuals who favor Donald Trump. However, Kenneth Shupe did not dispel the dumb Trump supporter stereotype, and in fact, he helped advance it.
We take you to Asheville, North Carolina where on Monday Cassandra McWade was stranded on the shoulder of I-26 after he car broke down. The handicapped woman, who suffers from chronic conditions, including psoriatic arthritis, fibromyalgia, and Crohn’s Disease, called for a tow truck. That’s when Ken Shupe, owner of Shupee Max Towing, showed up to the scene.
Shupe noticed the handicap placard hanging from her rear-view mirror as well as several pro-Bernie Sanders bumper stickers and signs decorated in and on the car.
“He said ‘I can’t tow you, you’re a Bernie supporter,’” Cassandra said. “And I was like, ‘Wait, are you serious?’”
Shupe was super serious. In fact, he told her to “call the government” for a tow because she was “obviously a socialist.”
Shupe, who identifies himself as a conservative Christian who supports Trump, continued to defend his reasoning.
“Every time I’ve dealt with these people in recent history, I get ‘Berned.’ With an ‘e,’ not a ‘u.’”
Ahhhhh. I see what you did there. I’m just surprised he knew how to spell the word in the first place.
As if Shupe needed more of a reason to abandon a stranded disabled woman than just because they have differing political views, he got one from a higher power.
“Something came over me, I think the Lord came to me, and he just said get in the truck and leave,” Shupe told an ABC affiliate. “And when I got in my truck, you know, I was so proud, because I felt like I finally drew a line in the sand and stood up for what I believed.”
So which is it? Did you not tow her car because you allege that other Bernie supporters have stiffed you in the past? Or did you strand this lady because God told you to? And ditching a disabled woman on the side of the highway doesn’t sound very Christian-like and not behavior that the Almighty would approve. Not to mention, isn’t God busy making earthquakes, sunshine and that new Justin Timberlake joint to worry about who this schmuck is towing?
Regardless of your politics, it’s a fucking shitty thing to do. This douche did a huge disservice to Christians, Trump supporters and tow truck drivers who wear sandals to work.
The morale of the story is don’t let your politics cause you to be a prick to other people.
