US Marine Takes Taliban Sniper Shot To The Head, Miraculously Saved By Helmet

Here I am watching this: the soldier takes the shot to the top of his head, saved by his helmet, and then proceeds to take his helmet off (once in a safe area). But my mind can’t stop wondering to that scene in Starship Troopers when the soldier pops his helmet off and all hell breaks loose.

That however did not happen, because this is not a movie. This is real life and this man has been trained by the US Marines.

From YouTube:

A Taliban sniper managed to get a non-fatal headshot on a Marine’s helmet while the Marines were conducting a joint helicopter raid in the Now Zad district, Helmand Province in 2013.

The shot occurs just about at 0:45

Also, this is an incredibly small world that we’re living in right now. The Marine’s brother managed to see this video on Reddit and pop in with some more info on the situation:

Okay, so I’ve got my brother’s permission to say some stuff. First off, his name’s not Martinez, and this video should not have been leaked, but it’s too late for that. This video was taken last year: he had a severe concussion, but he’s since returned to the States. Also, he didn’t remove his helmet until he was in a place he knew was secure, he described the sensation as having a firework go off in his head.
Source: the Marine in the video is my brother.

Just an incredible moment captured on film. A game of inches. One more time in GIF:
