A High School Wrestler Claims He Got Herpes From The Mat During A Match

Well, this doesn’t surprise me one bit. I was friends with some wrestlers in high school, and they all had serious skin conditions. From mat burn to ring worm, no one wanted to go anywhere near them.

Never wrestle.

Now, a high school wrestler is saying a mat during a match gave him herpes.

Blake Flovin, of San Jose, California, was diagnosed with herpes galdiatorum, and you can see the outbreak he suffered above. It doesn’t look pleasant, and he’ll carry the infection — and the possibility of outbreaks — for life.

That is … that sucks.

Flovin wants school officials to postpone a state tournament, to prevent the virus from spreading. He’s worried others may have contracted it. Officials, naturally, aren’t listening to him, although they say doctors will be on hand.

You can listen to Flovin make his case here.

The infection is common among wrestlers, but competitors must first pass a skin inspection before matches.

Damn. That sucks so hard.
