The 4th of July holiday is officially here, allowing families and friends to celebrate freedom with a day full of fireworks, grilled meats, and sporting entertainment. America’s pastime has been an Independence Day staple throughout the years. MLB action is set to kick off at 11 AM ET and continue through the wee hours of the night.

Baseball has a long history with the 4th of July. On July 4, 1939, Lou Gehrig made his famous “Luckiest Man” speech in New York. Nolan Ryan struck out his 3,000th batter on July 4, 1980. The MLB and the holiday are both synonymous with summertime.

5. Chicago White Sox

Interestingly, they own the longest Independence Day win streak at 14 games.

4. Cincinnati Reds
