When it comes to Competitive Eating, Joey Chestnut is the G.O.A.T. in the same way that Tom Brady and Wayne Gretzky are indisputably the kings of their own sports.

Nobody in the field of competitive eating can come close to some of Joey’s most prestigious records and today we are ranking Joey Chestnut’s greatest competitive eating records.

Joey Chestnut’s greatest competitive eating record is, of course, his 76 hot dogs and buns eaten at the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest held on the 4th of July each year, but Jaws has a lot more records to his name! 55 in fact.

In addition to Joey Chesnut’s hot dog record, we take a look at his most prestigious competitive eating records including cocktail shrimp, tacos, and more.

Kicking it off first is Joey Chestnut’s record at the 4th of July Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island. It is the most famous eating contest by a mile and Joey has OWNED the competition pretty much since he started competing.

Chestnut is a 14x winner of the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest with a record of 76 hot dogs and buns on July 4th, 2021, eaten in 10 minutes. The only person to come anywhere close to Joey’s record was Matt Stonie with 62 hot dogs and buns eaten in 2015.

2. St. Elmo's Steakhouse Cocktail Shrimp: 21 Pounds

This one is arguably Joey Chestnut’s second most famous and prestigious competitive eating record, the St. Elmo’s Steakhouse Cocktail Shrimp challenge in Indianapolis, Indiana.

On December 7th of last year, Joey took down 21 pounds of cocktail shrimp in 8 minutes at the world famous St. Elmo’s Steakhouse, breaking his previous record of 18 lb 9.6 oz (8.44 kg) which was set on December 1st, 2018… 21 pounds of shrimp in 8 minutes. Truly an impressive feat.

3. Bologna Slices: 15.75 Pounds

I don’t know what a ‘normal amount’ of bologna slices is considered, I’d say 3 slices at most, which would be just a few ounces. But less than two months ago on May 10th, 2025, Joey Chestnut downed 15.75 pounds of bologna slices at the Ultimate Bologna Showdown in just 8 minutes.

Almost SIXTEEN pounds of bologna slices went into his belly in just 8 minutes. That is hard to wrap our heads around.

4. Hard Boiled Eggs: 141

This competitive eating record from Joey Chestnut completely defies what I think a human being should be capable of: 141 hard boiled eggs in 8 minutes.

Chestnut set this record on October 5, 2013 at the World Hard Boiled Egg-Eating Championship in Radcliff, Kentucky, an event you probably didn’t know existed until right now.

5. Chicken Wings: 220

Joey Chestnut is a 6-time U.S. Chicken Wing Eating Champion, something most wing-lovers fail to realize. He has beaten his own record on multiple occasions, but on September 3, 2017, Jaws ate 220 chicken wings at the National Buffalo Wing Festival in 12 minutes to set the all-time chicken wing eating record.

He first set the record at 191 wings in 12 minutes back in 2012. So in the span of 5 years, he was able to push the chicken wing competitive eating record from 191 to 220. Wild stuff.

6. Cherry Pie: 17.5 Pounds

I can confidently say that on July 20, 2022 Joey Chestnut ate more Cherry Pie in 8 minutes than I have eaten in my entire life. Do I enjoy cherry pie? Of course! It’s delicious. It just isn’t a staple in my household and I only eat it on rare occasions.

So when Joey Chestnut put down 17.5 pounds of Cherry Pie in Washington D.C. in 2022 over the span of 8 minutes he very likely doubled my entire lifetime intake of cherry pie. Impressive stuff.

7. Jalapeño Poppers: 118

I’ve never been fond of Jalapeño Poppers myself. I just prefer other spicier peppers to jalapeños, but Joey Chestnut is obviously a huge fan.

On April 8, 2006 he ate 118 Jalapeño Poppers in only 10 minutes at the University of Arizona to capture a competitive eating record that seems unlikely to ever be broken.

8. Cheesesteak Rolls: 46

It only took Joey Chestnut 8 minutes to eat more cheesesteak rolls than most people eat in a year, maybe in a lifetime. Joey scarfed down 46 cheesesteak rolls in 8 minutes on September 30th, 2023 at the Balls Out Block Party to capture another incredible competitive eating record.

9. Smoked Pulled Pork: 9 Pounds, 6 Ounces

Despite Jaws having put down more overall food during other record attempts, for some reason this one wows me as much as any of them. He ate 9 pounds and 6 ounces of smoke pulled pork at the Council Bluffs Horseshoe Casino on September 16, 2006.

Maybe it is because I often eat .5lb of pulled pork, or a pound, when we go out for BBQ. But I cannot wrap my mind around eating 9 pounds and 6 ounces in just 10 minutes.

10. Taco Bell Soft Beef Tacos: 53

On July 29, 2011, Joey Chestnut snatched the Taco Bell ‘Soft Beef Tacos’ eating record after putting down 53 of them in 10 minutes.

At 180 calories per taco, that’s 9,540 calories of Taco Bell sof beef tacos in just 10 minutes for Jaws.

11. Twinkies: 21

On October 26, 2013, Joseph Christian Chestnut scarfed down 21 Twinkies in 6 minutes at the Bally’s Casino in Tunica, Mississippi.

A standard Twinkie has 150 calories. That’s 3,150 caloris of Twinkies in only 6 minutes. Impressive.

12. Krystal Burgers: 103

On October 28, 2007, in his early days of competitive eating, Joey Chestnut put down 103 Kyrstal Burgers in just 8 minutes. An Original Krystal Burger is 150 calories and 170 with cheese. Assuming they were regular burgers, that is 15,450 calories eaten in just 8 minutes.

On October 12, 2013, Joey Chestnut scarfed down 54 Cow Brain Tacos during a Zombie Pub Crawl.

He still holds the Competitive Eating World Record for ‘Cow Brain Tacos’ at 54 but this one is an honorable mention because Joey told us in a previous interview he would never ever ever attempt that world record again.
