Montana State moved to 6-1 during the 2023 college football season with a win over Sacramento State on Saturday despite a really bad miss from its 6-foot-9 kicker. Yes, you read that correctly.

The tallest player on the Bobcats’ roster is the kicker.

Brendan Hall, a junior, hails from Springtown, Texas. He began his career with two years at SMU.

However, after registering 169 kickoffs for 10,299 yards with 96 touchbacks and 36 punts for 1,502 yards (nine inside the 20 and five of 50 yards+), Hall entered the transfer portal and joined a national championship contender. Montana State has a legitimate chance to win the FCS playoff, and needed a specialist.

Hall was the perfect fit— even though he doesn’t fit into any conventional spaces. At 6-foot-9, 232 pounds, he is the same height as LeBron James but 18 pounds lighter.

Hall serves as the primary kickoff specialist, punter and kicker. Saturday was not his night.

He missed both of his field goal attempts:

  • One in the first quarter from 33 yards.
  • One as time expired during the second quarter.

The latter was especially terrible in the best way possible.

Hall lined up from 45 yards out with five seconds left. His kick missed right, wide right.

The amount of force behind Hall’s attempt sent the ball sailing past the upright. Not even close.

It was such a powerful kick that there has yet to be confirmation of its return to earth. Legend has it that Hall’s kick is actually still hovering somewhere in the stratosphere.

Keep an eye on your backyard… there is a high probability that a football will fall out of the sky somewhere in the northwestern United States on Sunday afternoon. Hall yeeted that ball into orbit.

Fortunately, the Bobcats did not have to rely on Hall for the win. They defeated the Hornets without needing an additional six points.
