Sports fans in Philadelphia have a reputation for being a fairly hostile bunch. That was certainly the case with the crowd that gathered to root for the 76ers on Thursday, as spectators showered a halftime performer with boos after being less than impressed by what he brought to the table.

It’s hard to think of many places that have a more ironic nickname than Philadelphia, as “The City of Brotherly Love” is not exactly reflective of the atmosphere and attitude that most people associate with the biggest metro area in the state of Pennsylvania.

You could argue that reputation can boil down to bad apples spoiling the bunch, but it’s no secret that a good chunk of that metaphorical rotten fruit can be traced back to the people who cheer for the sports teams that call the city home.

Bad behavior is obviously not unique to Philly.

With that said, we’re talking about a place where the Phillies had to forfeit a game due to a barrage of glass bottles, the Flyers earned a penalty after spectators showered the ice with bracelets, and people at an Eagles game threw snowballs at Santa Claus while attending a contest in a stadium that had a dedicated jail and an in-house judge who handled cases that arose on game day.

Opposing teams can usually expect a very hostile welcome when they play there, and that was also the case with one man who was tapped to be the halftime performer at a 76ers game.

The 76ers played their first home game of the season when they hosted the Cavaliers at Xfinity Mobile Arena on Thursday night, but things did not get off to a great start when you consider the home team was facing a 24-point deficit when it headed into the locker room down 69-35 at halftime.

The Boo Birds started voicing their displeasure in the closing minutes of the second quarter, and that turned out to be a warm-up for the display we’d be treated to as fans were awaiting the start of the second half.

The 76ers offered spectators some halftime entertainment in the form of a performer known as “Light Man,” who donned an LED costume and performed various acts with lit-up accessories during a routine that also featured a miniature drone show.

It’s safe to say he was no Red Panda, and plenty of fans made it clear they were thoroughly unimpressed by treating Light Man to a chorus of boos.

Those fans finally got something to cheer for, as the 76ers were able to erase what was a 29-point deficit at one point and rallied to improve to 2-0 with a 114-106 win.
