While Aaron Rodgers may be parting ways with the New York Jets, he may not have to leave the city of New York as the Giants have emerged as the betting favorites to acquire his services. Rodgers started in 17 games for the Jets last year, leading them to a 5-12 record.
A variety of sports books now have the New York Giants as the prohibitive betting favorites to land the 41-year-old future Hall of Fame quarterback with odds of about -150. Other teams in the mix are the Pittsburgh Steelers at +250, the Las Vegas Raiders at +400, the Tennessee Titans at +550, and the Indianapolis Colts/Minnesota Vikings, who both clock in at +750.
The Giants have reportedly done their due diligence on Rodgers, with reports from Connor Hughes of SNY indicating that Big Blue staff asked former Jets coaches about the mercurial signal-caller.
“Yes, the Giants have discussed Rodgers. Members of their coaching staff actually sought out former members of the Jets coaching staff in Indy to ask about Rodgers’ two years in New York. But no deal is imminent,” Hughes reported.
If the Giants are the only legitimately interested team, that’ll certainly test Rodgers’ resolve in terms of how much he actually wants to keep playing, as the Giants have been just as big of a mess for the last decade as the Jets.
The Giants are heading into their fourth season with Brian Daboll as their head coach, have won a combined nine games in the two seasons since Daboll was named Coach of the Year after his rookie season in 2022. They have the third overall pick in this Spring’s NFL draft.
During the 2024 season with the Jets — his lone as the franchise’s starting quarterback which saw the organization extend its playoff drought to 14 years — Rodgers had a passer rating of 90.5 with 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 17 games.
