We’re currently in a Ryder Cup year which is one of the best events in professional golf. It pits Team USA vs Europe in a series of match play events. This year’s Ryder Cup is set to take place in France in the Fall but there will be some glorious match play action before then in a new event that was announced earlier this week.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Houston Rockets point guard Chris Paul will host a two day Ryder Cup-style event in at the Mohegan Sun Golf Club in Connecticut on June 27th and 28th this Summer. The event is being put on by Turner Sports and CAA Sports and it will be aired on TNT in a one-hour special which will air after second round coverage of the PGA Championship. Bleacher Report will be airing live coverage of the event on their social channels.
“I couldn’t be more excited for ‘The Showdown’ this summer,” said Rodgers, who has become a familiar face on the celebrity golf circuit, including several appearances at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. “While the NFL and NBA are home to many of the greatest athletes in the world, a golf course is an entirely different battlefield. I am extremely passionate about golf, and look forward to assembling a team of the NFL’s top golfers to determine, once and for all, which league is truly top on the links.” (via Golf Digest)
It doesn’t appear as if Chris Paul and Aaron Rodgers have hand-picked their NBA and NFL teammates yet but Golf Digest seems to think that the NFL holds a serious advantage in terms of the talent pool.
