Aaron Rodgers has agreed to a reworked contract with the New York Jets, according to reports.

According to ProFootballTalk, the Jets and the 39-year-old four-time NFL MVP “have worked out a deal to reconfigure a contract that was restructured when the Packers traded Rodgers to the Jets.”

The contract is set to pay Rodgers $1.165 million in 2023 and $107.55 million in 2024, which virtually guarantees that he’ll spend at least two seasons with the team. Rodgers had previously signed a three-year, $150 million contract with the Green Bay Packers back in March 2022.

As ProFootballTalk notes, however, while the contract has been agreed to, it has yet to be officially signed.

Heading into the 2023 season, Rodgers has brought Super Bowl expectations to New York, as the Jets are one of the top seven betting favorites to win next year’s Super Bowl despite not having made the playoffs since 2010, which is the longest drought in the league.

Currently, only the Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys have better betting odds than the Jets.

Rodges will play his first official game for the Jets on Monday, September 11 when they face off against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in a Monday Night Football matchup. Despite being the first game of the season, it’ll be a key one for Rodgers and the Jets as it’ll be a solid test of whether or not they can actually compete with the division’s elite teams.

In addition to the Bills, the AFC also boasts Patrick Mahomes on the Chiefs, Joe Burrow on the Bengals, Justin Herbert (who just signed a massive new contract) on the Chargers, Lamar Jackson on the Ravens, and Trevor Lawrence on the Jaguars.  There are also the likes of Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins lurking within the Jets’ own division.

All told, if the Jets are going to make the playoffs for the first time in 13 years, they’ve got their work cut out for them.
