Despite how frequently he talked about Zach Wilson and his relationship with the young Jets quarterback, Aaron Rodgers apparently “barely” spoke with Wilson and largely lied about their relationship.

According to a report from The AthleticWilson “barely heard from” Aaron Rodgers after he tore his Achilles just four snaps into the season.

“Wilson told coaches and teammates he was under the impression he’d have a direct line to Rodgers, even after Rodgers tore his Achilles and flew home to California for surgery in the early stages of his rehab. Instead, Wilson barely heard from him,” Dianna Russini and Zack Rosenblatt reported for The Athletic.

Rodgers lying about his relationship with Zach Wilson shouldn’t come as a surprise as it’s consistent with the narcissistic personality he’s so routinely displayed over the years.

“We’re also going to put our arms around Zach and love on him because he’s a great kid,” Rodgers once said during one of his weekly appearances on The Pat McAfee Show.

Luckily for Rodgers, he won’t have to put up the facade of being a mentor to Wilson next season as the Jets are expected to get rid of the former #2 overall draft pick, who has been nothing but a bust during his first three seasons in the NFL.

Even if Rodgers does remain healthy for the entirety of the 2024 season, the Jets are going to face an uphill battle to compete in the AFC given the division’s talent at the quarterback position.

According to Rodgers — which, again, given this Wilson report, his word needs to be taken with a grain of salt — he’s hoping to remain with the Jets beyond just the 2024/25 season.
