Florida State wide receiver Duce Robinson tries to catch a Hail Mary against Miami on Oct. 17, 2026. `
The Miami Hurricanes remained undefeated on Saturday night with a 43-35 double-overtime victory over rival Florida State, but not without plenty of controversy and perhaps some help from ACC referees.
After both teams scored touchdowns in the opening overtime session, the Hurricanes immediately scored on the opening possession of the second overtime and then added to a 2-point conversion to take a 43-35 lead.
A sack and a pair of penalties put the Seminoles in a 4th-and-21 situation all the way back at the 36-yard line. Ashton Daniels appears to come up with a miraculous touchdown pass. But it was called back due to a controversial holding penalty on left tackle Xaxier Chaplin.
This was the holding call that negated the Hail Mary for Florida State… https://t.co/BRIfV15tTV

This is just good, textbook blocking.
In no way is this a holding call. The only argument there could be is a shoulder grab from the tackle on that right hand, but it’s nowhere near enough to throw that flag.
Insane that this play decided the game.

Astonishing holding call. I know @geoffschwartz is beside himself at that call. That’s a standard OT play. OT was in advantageous position and just put the DL on the ground.
Then no joint possession on final play despite freeze frame showing Duce Robinson’s gloves on the ball

But the agony got even worse for ‘Noles fans. On 4th-and-31, Daniels heaved the ball in the end zone, and star wide receiver Duce Robinson appeared to make an incredible catch.
Instead, the referees ruled that Robinson never had full possession and instead called it an interception for the ‘Canes, handing them the victory.
Looks to me like Duce Robinson caught the ball, but the fucking ACC and these refs are corrupt as hell, so… https://t.co/WnEQCqx4iY

How is that not joint possession? Doesn’t Duce Robinson have both hands on the ball while it’s in the midsection of a Miami player? ACC replay booth didn’t appear to even consider it.

Duce Robinson has control of that football against his helmet, while the ball is in the Miami player’s midsection. The Miami’s players hands are not on that ball when Duce lands. That should be a catch.
Replay booth got this wrong. Horrifically.

everyone watching that game was like “i’m pretty sure Duce Robinson caught that for a TD” but the ACC refs didn’t even acknowledge him having possession lol

What do you think? Did the refs get it right? Or do Florida State fans have a legitimate gripe?
