According to Fox’s Ken Rosenthal, Adam LaRoche decided to abruptly retire from the Chicago White Sox because the club asked him to stop bringing his 14-year-old son into the team clubhouse.

LaRoche’s son, Drake, 14, has traveled with him for several years. Adam, in a Chicago Tribune story last year, called him team’s “26th man.”

The 36-year-old first baseman ended up walking away from the final $13 million on his two-year contract after tweeting out this retirment message with the hashtag #Familyfirst.
