St. Louis Cardinals fans got a treat before the team’s Opening Day matchup against Toronto on Thursday. Starting pitcher Adam Wainwright didn’t start in the team’s season debut, but he still managed to steal the show.

The veteran actually performed the National Anthem prior to the game’s start. It was the perfect way for the St. Louis staple to begin his final year in the bigs.

Wainwright announced that he’d be retiring at season’s end at the age of 41 years old. The righty’s been a major leaguer for 18 seasons dating back to 2005, and he’s won an impressive 195 games over that lengthy career.

Twice he’s led the MLB in wins and innings pitched, coming close to a Cy Young award on four separate occasions. Wainwright has spent all of his 18 professional seasons in St. Louis, helping the Cardinals win a World Series in 2006.

The pitcher’s baseball career may be soon coming to an end, but he’s already showing fans what he has in store for the next phase of his life.

Adam Wainwright is an aspiring country music singer. On Thursday, he showed the baseball world his talents.

The longtime ball player belted out the National Anthem ahead of the Cardinals’ Opening Day matchup against the Blue Jays, and fans absolutely loved it.

Most were surprised to see that the pitcher had this talent outside of baseball.

Some are already waiting for the album to drop.

Adam Wainwright definitely got the day started on a good note. Unfortunately, the Cardinals would fall, 10-9, to Toronto on Opening Day.
