Report: Adrian Newey Set To Leave Red Bull F1 Team, Could Join Rival Ferrari

Adrian Newey, the mastermind behind Red Bull Racing’s recent dominance in Formula 1, is reportedly on his way out of the team.

German outlet Auto Motor und Sport reports that Newey has grown tired of the recent dysfunction surrounding the team and plans to seek out another challenge.

Notably, the report claims that F1 rival Ferrari could well be Newey’s next destination.

“This is the next bomb on the transfer market of Formula 1. After Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari, star designer Adrian Newey is now the focus,” Michael Schmidt reports. “The 65-year-old Englishman is to announce his departure from Red Bull soon. Newey has been employed by the British racing team since 2006.”

Former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner recently referred to Newey as the most important person in the entire Formula 1 paddock.

“I will take Adrian Newey because I’m sure he can make a car which can win,” Steiner said in a mailbag answer for The Athletic.  The answer is quite obvious. Even if you take Max (Verstappen) with our car, we wouldn’t win. I think if we had a Red Bull, Nico could win races and Kevin.”

Newey, 65, designed championship-winning Formula 1 cars across four separate decades, beginning with Williams in 1992 and most recently with Red Bull in 2023 (and presumably 2024).

Not only would it be a crushing loss if he were to leave, but Red Bull could see their star designer join one of its biggest rivals.

“The rumours (sp) about Newey’s goodbye are not new. That is why the competition for the man, who designed world champion cars for Williams, McLaren and Red Bull, has already tried to help. Experts see him at Ferrari,” AMuS reports. “Newey was spotted at the airport in Bologna at least once. If this comes true, Frédéric Vasseur would have welded together a super team with Hamilton, Leclerc and Newey.”

Newey leaving Red Bull would undoubtedly rock the F1 world. But should he land at Ferrari, the news would be of seismic proportions.
