AJ Brown tried to explain his slow start to the season

AJ Brown doesn’t actually stink this year. According to the New England Patriots wide receiver, teams are actually just game-planning to shut him down.

Speaking to the media after Thursday’s 30-24 loss to the Bears, in which he caught three passes on six targets for 48 yards, AJ Brown said his slow start is because defenses are taking him out of the game.

New England Patriots wide receiver AJ Brown says that his slow start to the season is because opposing defenses are planning to take him out of games

“I know what type of player I am. Every time I line up, I get a lot of attention,” Brown said, adding that defenses are trying to take him away, which creates opportunities for other players. “And then whenever I get my shots, you know, I got to make them,” he said.

The Patriots acquired Brown from the Eagles in an offseason trade in exchange for a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick. So far, he’s come nowhere close to justifying that cost.

Brown left early in Week 1 against the Seahawks with a high ankle sprain and spent the next four games on injured reserve.  Since returning, he has six catches on 16 targets for 75 yards over two games, with just 27 yards against the Jets in Week 6. T

Unfortunately for Brown, the tape doesn’t match up with the excuse he’s trying to sell.

Brown’s next chance to turn it around could come Nov. 1 against the Miami Dolphins.
