In the most, and least, shocking news of the week — AJ Lee has reportedly retired from the WWE.
According to WWE.com and the official WWE Twitter account, AJ Lee announced her plans to retire today. No official word was given as to why one of the most popular, and talented, WWE Divas is hanging it up.
AJ Lee is married to former WWE Champion, and current MMA hopeful, CM Punk. Punk also abruptly retired from the WWE in the spring of last year.
Whatever her reason, as a fan, this news absolutely sucks. Hopes of matches against Paige and future feuds with Charlotte or Sasha Banks are now crushed. As for speculation as to why, it could be a host of different things, including character direction, frustration with creative, fatigue, lack of respect from fans who continue to chant her husband’s name during matches or the urge to start a family.
We wish AJ Lee the best of luck in the future.
