Even though Dixieland Delight is about a Tennessee Saturday night, it is a song that means a lot to the University of Alabama. However, the Crimson Tide’s efforts to cover up an explicit anti-Auburn chant at the Iron Bowl did not work… again.
100,000 fans at Bryant-Denny Stadium yelled “F— AUBURN!” in unison, over and over, for three-straight minutes!
As is tradition, Alabama played ‘Dixieland Delight’ at the end of the third quarter. The lyrics are traditionally accompanied by a set of ad-libs during the chorus.
Spend my dollar (ON BEER!)
Parked in a holler ‘neath the mountain moonlight (ROLL TIDE!)
Holdin’ her up tight (AGAINST THE WALL!)
Make a little lovin’ (ALL NIGHT!)
A little turtle dovin’ on a Mason Dixon night (F— AUBURN!)
It’s my life (AND LSU!)
Oh so right (AND TENNESSEE TOO!)
My dixieland delight
The ad-libs sound a little bit different when the Tigers are in town. Alabama fans also add “F— AUBURN!” to the end of every sentence of the verse.
Rolling down a backwoods (F— AUBURN!)
Tennessee byway (F— AUBURN!)
One arm on the wheel (F— AUBURN!)
Holding my lover (F— AUBURN!)
With the other (F— AUBURN!)
A sweet soft southern thrill (F— AUBURN!)
Worked hard all week (F— AUBURN!)
Got a little jingle (F— AUBURN!)
On a Tennessee Saturday night (F— AUBURN!)
Couldn’t feel better (F— AUBURN!)
I’m together (F— AUBURN!)
With my dixieland delight (F— AUBURN!)
The “F— AUBURN!” during Dixieland Delight in 2014 was so loud it could be heard on the television broadcast at home. As a result, the song was placed on hiatus.
The song made its triumphant return in 2019, but fans were asked to refrain from yelling the F-word. Instead, they were asked to replace “F— AUBURN!” with “BEAT AUBURN!” The university even added fake crowd noise to its recording of Dixieland Delight just in case. A booming “BEAT AUBURN!” plays over the speakers when it reaches that point in the chorus.
Despite the Crimson Tide’s best efforts, not even fake crowd noise can stop the fans from making their voices heard during the Iron Bowl. They were loud and clear on Saturday.

The pumped-in “BEAT AUBURN!” is so loud, you can can hear it from way outside the stadium. It’s still not loud enough to mask the F-word at the Iron Bowl.

This is not new. Alabama fans have chanted “F— AUBURN!” at home games for years. Whenever the rivalry game is played in Tuscaloosa, it reaches unprecedented volumes. The Crimson Tide tried its best to fix the problem that got the song banned in 2014 with an edited “BEAT AUBURN!” track but there’s just no way to cover it up during the Iron Bowl.
