On Friday morning, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that top Alabama QB recruit Julian Sayin is headed to the transfer portal.

“Sources: Alabama freshman quarterback Julian Sayin, the top-ranked quarterback in the class of 2024, intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Sayin is expected to initiate the transfer process on Friday, per sources.”

“Sayin is ESPN’s No. 3 overall player in the Class of 2024 and the marquee offensive player in Alabama’s 2024 recruiting class. He’s an early enrollee who arrived in January and came to Alabama to play for Nick Saban He’ll now explore other options.”

According to ESPN, Sayin is entering the transfer portal because he was only interested in playing for Nick Saban.

Sayin is the highest-ranked offensive player in the 2024 ESPN 300, as he’s the No. 3 overall player and one of the marquee players in Alabama’s freshman recruiting class. Sayin enrolled early at Alabama, and his first day of classes there earlier this month coincided with the announcement of coach Nick Saban’s retirement.

The reason for Sayin initiating the process to depart Alabama, per sources, is that Sayin came to play for Saban. Since Saban abruptly retired, Sayin is going to explore his options.

Since Saban’s retirement, Alabama has lost several players to the transfer portal, including top wide receiver Isaiah Bond and freshman All-American safety Caleb Downs, among others.

Newly hired Bama head coach Kalen DeBoer is going to have a tough time rebuilding now that Saban is out of the picture.
