Some Big Names Are Swirling For The Next Offensive Coordinator At Alabama

Nick Saban Baffled Learning The ‘Horns Down’ Gesture Is Penalized

It was a down year by the lofty standards Nick Saban has set for Alabama football. The Crimson Tide finished 11-2, did not make the SEC title game and lost their two biggest games to Tennessee and LSU.

Things just never completely clicked for this addition of Alabama. Quarterback Bryce Young was fantastic, no doubt. But, it wasn’t the dominating football we’re used to seeing out of them on either side of the ball.

Defensive coordinator Pete Golding already “left” for Ole Miss, and on Tuesday, Bill O’Brien moved on from the team and returned to be the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots.

Now, Saban must find two coordinators. Thankfully, AL.com was on it, and they put out a list of names to consider for the job.

There are some familiar names on there. The one that sticks out to me is fired Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury. He would be the next in line of fired coaches to go to the “Nick Saban school for coaches who don’t coach good no more” and he could thrive there. This is what they said about Kingsbury.

After being fired from the Cardinals earlier this month, Kingsbury told Fox Sports he bought a one-way plane ticket to Thailand and was declining NFL job opportunities. But if his thinking changed, Kingsbury would be an intriguing option for Alabama if it wanted to adopt the spread offense that made Kingsbury a successful college coach leading Johnny Manziel at Texas A&M and Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech.

Another name is Joe Brady, the former LSU passing game coordinator and Carolina Panthers OC. Brady was a rising star in the sport before things went south with Carolina. He’s currently in Buffalo with the Bills.

Brady was a little-known young assistant who spent one season at LSU in 2019, helping coach Joe Burrow to an undefeated season and national title. That landed him a job as Matt Rhule’s offensive coordinator with the Carolina Panthers, but he was fired before the end of his second season. He spent this season with the Bills and reportedly will interview for the New York Jets’ offensive coordinator position.

Some other names you may recognize are former Jets coach Adam Gase, Oklahoma offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby, and former Cowboys coach Jason Garrett.
