In what has been one of the weirder Wednesdays for any single NFL team, the Chicago Bears have had an incredibly chaotic day. And, it has taken another turn, as defensive coordinator Alan Williams has resigned.

The news was broken by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Just a bizarre day in Bears land. Earlier today, Justin Fields threw the Bears coaching staff way under the bus and blamed them for his struggles.

There’s some truth to that, as the Bears scheme stinks. But, Fields is not doing a good job of hitting open receivers, either, as this article shows

But, the big story out of Halas Hall today was Williams. Rumors swirled today from Twitter journalists that Williams was the subject of a criminal investigation, with raids of his house and Halas Hall, the Bears’ headquarters. This was according to @JonZSports, who has sizable social media presence.

“BREAKING: According to sources familiar with the situation, both Halas Hall and Alan Williams’s home have been raided in connection with an undisclosed incident.

Alan Williams’s home was raided Sunday night, after the team’s Week 1 loss.

Halas Hall was raided THIS MORNING.”

But, there’s been pushback against that, to say the least. Courtney Cronin, who covers the Bears for ESPN, said there was no raid of Halas Hall.

“A team spokesman addressed the rumors regarding Halas Hall being raided today as false. We were also told that the police have not been to Halas Hall in connection to Alan Williams.”

@JonZSports is doubling down on his sources.

“I stand by my source, and my reporting regarding the Alan Williams and Bears matter.

I care about the truth of the situation. I’m not in it for clicks, shares, or likes. I never have been, and never will be.”

Cronin then released this Tweet, a statement from an attorney representing Alan Williams, Andrew M. Stroth.

“I spoke with Andrew M. Stroth, a sports attorney based out of Chicago who is working with former Bears DC Alan Williams. He told me Williams is resigning due to health concerns and and family issues.

‘Given the false rumors and what seems to be out there on social media, I just want to set the record straight that Coach Williams has some health challenges and some family issues he’s dealing with and he thought it was the right time to take a step back and deal with those issues. He has tremendous respect for the Bears organization and he just though it was the time to handle this health issue and his personal matters.'”

This situation is completely bizarre, with different people saying different things about what did and didn’t go on. There’s even rumors out there of former Bears star corner Charles Tillman, who is indeed an FBI agent now, being involved in some capacity with the disputed raid.

Ian Rapoport poured cold water on all of these conspiracies, saying there’s no FBI raid and Charles Tillman isn’t involved in any way.

Alan Williams joined the Bears after Matt Eberflus was hired by the team prior to the 2022 season as their head coach.

Just another normal day for a franchise that has sadly devolved into a train wreck.
