UFC’s Alex Volkanovski didn’t have the luxury of having an entire fight camp to cut down in weight ahead of his 155-pound title fight against Islam Makhachev.
For UFC 294, Volkanovski took the fight on 11 days’ notice after Charles Oliveira had to pull out of the fight after suffering a nasty cut in training that wouldn’t allow him to travel to Abu Dhabi.
During an interview with TNT Sports, Volk revealed that he was on vacation with his family and had gotten a bit heavy when he got the call to potentially replace Oliveira.

“I was on a little holiday with the family, and I was enjoying it. I was enjoying the sun, a couple of drinks and eating very well.
“It’s funny, I had a day head start before I got the call up because I saw that weight, and I was not happy with how heavy I was.
“Literally, when I got the call, I was a kilo or two lighter. I was like, ‘It’s not as bad as yesterday, we’ll get it.’ We had to move some kilos, but my body just knows, it literally does.
“I flip the switch, the weight went off and my body just kicked into gear.”
Volk’s dietitian Jordan Sullivan, aka “The Fight Dietitian,” showed off the champ’s stunning body transformation after losing 26 pounds in 11 days.
Apparently, Volk cut 12 pounds on the final day before weigh-ins to make weight, and Sullivan explained the process in a TikTok video.
