In news that will come as no surprise to anyone in the NCAA Wrestling world, former national champion and reigning All-American AJ Ferrari was arrested on Saturday.
It marks the third time that Ferrari, 24, has been arrested during his lengthy college career, which dates back to the 2020-21 season when he won a national championship for Oklahoma State as a true freshman at 197 pounds.
Ferrari later parted ways with the Cowboys after he was arrested amid an ongoing sexual assault case that was later dropped. Following the dismissal of charges, Ferrari spent a brief period with the Iowa Hawkeyes that ended after he punched a teammate and gave the middle finger to home fans.
After that, Ferrari made his way to Cal-Bakersfield, where he mostly remained out of trouble and finished in third at the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
This past season, Ferrari attempted to enroll at the University of North Carolina but was denied admission and later landed at the University of Nebraska.
He took sixth place for the Huskers in the 2026 NCAA Tournament up at heavyweight after forfeiting out of the tournament following a loss in the semifinals. But that wasn’t until after a midseason arrest on an outstanding warrant.
Technically, Ferrari has one year of eligibility remaining, but he and the Huskers parted ways following the season. Now it appears that he’s unlikely to find a sixth new home.
AJ Ferrari Ran From Police After Crashing Corvette Following 120-MPH Chase
According to Cody Mainquist of NE Wrestle, Ferrari picked up in North Platte after speeding down Highway 83 over 120 MPH, running from police,” Mainquist wrote on X. “Later crashed his Corvette into a ditch and took off on foot.”
The booking date for the arrest was June 27, 2026, and the official charges are listed as “flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, and obstructing the police.”

In addition to wrestling, Ferrari had previously expressed interest in one day joining the UFC. With college wrestling now seemingly off the table, his MMA career may begin sooner than expected.
