Remember AJ Ferrari?

Well, for those of you don’t, Ferrari won an NCAA wrestling championship at 197 pounds and proceeded to cut an absolutely bizarre promo on ESPN afterward.

Ferrari’s 2022 season was cut short when he crashed his vehicle into an oncoming car while trying to pass in a no-passing zone.

Oklahoma State then kicked him off the team after he was charged with sexual battery. Ferrari left the university shortly thereafter.

Eventually, the charges were dropped. That meant Ferrari, with three years of eligibility remaining, was essentially a free agent.

Enter the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Iowa is the second-most successful program in NCAA history with 24 team championships. But recently, the Hawkeyes have played second fiddle to Penn State. The Nittany Lions have won 10 of the last 12 championships.

So in their quest to return to the top, Iowa coaches Tom and Terry Brands made a phone call.

First, they added Ferrari’s younger brother Anthony, who was also on the roster at Oklahoma State. Then they picked up a commitment from Ferrari’s youngest brother, Angelo, who is the top-rated recruit in the class of 2024.

Finally, AJ took an official visit to Iowa, all but confirming the inevitable.

The Hawkeyes hosted their annual “Soldier Salute” tournament on Friday and Saturday. Because Ferrari isn’t technically enrolled yet, he participated independently.

But in the finals, he met up with currently Iowa start Zach Glazier.

Glazier and Ferrari went to overtime tied at 2-2. Late in the first sudden victory period, Ferrari picked up a takedown to win the match 5-2.

Or so it seemed.

After the match, Ferrari and Glazier got into a heated altercation that ended with Ferrari throwing a punch and giving the middle finger to his (likely) future teammate.

The officials then disqualified Ferrari for the punch, giving the victory to Glazier.

After the match, with the crowd jeering, Ferrari then dropped into a split and gave the double bird to all those in attendance.

So yeah, things are going great in Iowa City.
