The Alpha Tauri F1 Team Appears To Have A Horrific New Name That Everybody Hates

The Scuderia Alpha Tauri Formula 1 team (FKA Toro Rosso) has a new name, and fans absolutely hate it.

The artist formerly known at Alpha Tauri, which is owned by and essentially a feeder team for the powerhouse Red Bull Racing team, announced plans for a name change all the way back in June.

It was believed that this would come with a new title sponsor, and boy has it…

The will now be known as Visa CashApp Racing Bulls.

If you think that’s a horrendous mouthful of a team name, you’re not alone!

This comes just weeks after Alfa Romeo (formerly Sauber) announced its intention to rebrand as Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber.

Yes, that is every bit as bad.

But this is what happens when you welcome team owners into a sport whose only goal is to profit.

And if you’re thinking to yourself: “that’s not even good branding!”

You would be correct!

Sauber fans are still going to call the team Sauber. And absolutely nobody is going to refer to Alpha Tauri/Toro Rosso as VisaCashApp Racing Bulls.

Because what an absolutely absurd thing to say.

This is like if the Los Angeles Lakers opted to rename themselves whatever their current jersey sponsor is at the time.

Nobody is going along with that.

Now, is the check from Visa large enough that it doesn’t actually matter? You’d have to ask team owner and Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz.

Given his absolutely obscene amount of wealth, it’s a safe bet he’s knows what he’s doing when it comes to making money.

But that doesn’t make the change any less ridiculous.

If you go back just a decade to the 2014 Formula 1 season, only four of the 10 teams on the grid had title sponsors. And none were as obtrusive as the two above.

But this is a new era of Formula 1. One where tradition is irrelevant and glamorous street races fill the calendar. Like it or not, this is the future of the sport.
